surviving without breakfast : epic tales of ort lust : part 2

when i was 11
i scavanged the cash via empty soda bottles
to buy a hay-huge sack of m&m's

i got home
went to my room
and searched for a place to stash my horde
(i had 3 sisters)

what i didn't realize was
my doggie was being Big Brother
and watching my every move

after taking my afternoon fix
i put the stash between
the mattresses

when i came back
in the early evening for another fix
the stash had been raided

and
not ordinary raided
more like savagely attacked and destroyed

colors and chocolate
were everywhere
between the mattresses

it was
a slaughter
an m&m bomb went off

the carnage
was real
and grotesque

i ran down the list
of ususal suspects
the MO did not fit the suspects

i was... perplexed (if such a thing is possible in a kid)
but it did finally hit me
ye doggie

from that day forward
her name was
'ort'

i loved the ort
and the ort was good
long live the ort

surviving without breakfast : epic tales of ort lust : part 3

art was riding the tube
jim spotter
me at the helm

there's an interesting phenomenon with water
at just about 30mph
it turns from soft to hard

this little pleasure craft can crank up
to 25mph
the thrill ride comes from whiplash

i bring the beast up
to speed and
hard over port to whip art out across the lake

the ski rope is tied to a car inner tube and
the handles positioned just right
for a hold

art's electric orange ski jacket
contrasts brightly
to the black inner tube and emerald green water

his body snaps off
the end of the line and
sends him screaming across the lake

chest on the tube and legs dangling
as he coarse sandpapers past the boat
at 45mph

here's something you need to know
when breaking
the 30mph soft to hard barrier

every and any little ripple on the water
becomes
a rock, a stone, a medium of pain

when you're the rider
and you snap off the end of the line
the speed thrill outstrips the pain

you hold tight against the centrifical force
and hard stones crashing against your legs
to throw you off

art is at the peak
riding the wild bronco
screaming past the boat

that's when i see it
the wake of a distant boat coming
and art coming
and that's it
a stone curb on the lake

nothing could be done
every cartoon you ever saw
is art

he slams into the wake and
takes off like a pinwheel across the lake
in a hyper-speed cartwheel

its the kind of scenario like war
bombs are dropping and its horrific but at the same time
riviting and spectacular

art's pinwheeling begins to slow
he drops below
the 30mph magic hard/soft line

the lake grabs his foot
and wwf body SLAMS him
his ski vest explodes like a piñata

i am gob smacked as
i bring the boat hard about
and speed to art

i pull along side
jim is trying to gaffe him into grab hold range
the boat stops and i go over to help

art is lying back
head just above water
eyes a slit and this funny
ehh ehh ehh sound
like a hamster in heat noise?
this is where i begin struggling
i am stomping down
a rising belly laugh

art is damaged as we haul him aboard
i'm beginning to hurt
keeping the laugh down

i turn away and bite my knuckle
i need something to chew on
"jim, we got any chips left?"

            Ode to Lao

I’m on the Ventura Pier
having clams and beer

A bi-plane flies over

There’s a sea gull to
the right
a three-quarter moon in
a late-light sky to the
left
and the surf is rolling
in calm

I get up and walk to the
end of the pier
up to the rail

I lean over and look into
the darkening green

I feel pulled on
I go
pitching headlong into
the water

When I hit
I let my arms travel loose
along my sides and kick
hard for the bottom

It gets dark, black
and cold cold
before the bottom suddenly
lights up and I hit the sand head first

I suck deeply on it so
I’ll be weighted and not
float up

I lie there in a no-time place
Crabs pull at and eat
away on my flesh
Fish nibble and feed
I go the way of ten thousand
eyes

I see the earth is a door
a gateless gate

I make the passage
to meet...
you

a bedtime story

a child was waking, lying in bed
he loved the image and thought that was god
he rose to met the day and to be with his love
to be with god

on rising
he realized he was in the world
he was afraid of the world
the world was so far from his love, so far from god

yet, as divinity would have it
he was surrounded by woman
and woman was god in the world
so he was safe

but he crept by the doorway
so not to be seen by woman
because she would pounce on him
and kiss him all over his face

she was so powerful
her love so immense
he was afraid of drowning in her love
he was too young and afraid of her
he did not know how to swim...

the child grew to boy
and
still he would run and hide from her

the boy grew to young man
his strength of body increased, his sense of power increased
he began to think he could handle woman, be with her

silly young man
silly silly to think he could handle the immense
power of love that is woman

he tried
oh yes
he tried as young man does try
and in trying
he was given the knowledge to see

he could not contain her
he could not handle woman
she was not an object to obtain and have
she was uncontainable
she was the power
she was love

the young man realized this
when he realized the power of love
god took him from the world...

when the young man awoke
he was in a strange new world
it was vital and potent
at every moment and at every turn
he was on earth

the earth was a live and breathing creature of the love
he was in the love
continuously in love

the power of it was an intensity to cause a cry of death in him
the power of love was as death to him
the death of the world
it was the beginning of eternity...

and so it was
the young man began a journey
the journey through love

and as a duck to water
he did take to it and did swim like a creature in his element
a creature in the sea of love

it was a wonder
he had native moves
a natural in love
the eternal sea...

one day
a tantric goddess was at the edge of
the sea, fishing

she was smart this goddess
a shrewd and knowledgeable creature
she was a rat
and she baited the line just so to hook a water dragon...

the young man was grown now and
he was swimming in the sea as he is want to do
playing
dancing on the pounding waters by the edge
where earth meets world

he spied a delicious treat
and took it
hooked, he was reeled onto the shores of oz by the tantric goddess
she took him into her knowledge...

the man was alone now
but only alone by body
eternity
love
was ever there
as a breath
a song
the butcher bird
the wind and surf

then
without notice
an agent of god called to the man
she said pointing
go to that place over there
waiting is the body of love

and the man went to the place
and so it was
the body of love was there waiting

she was made of beauty
alive
with dancing hair and perceiving eyes
fingers describing poetry in the air

she made an offering to him
he bowed
laid down with her and passed into the gift of love

passing through the gateless gate
he did realize the universe within
the vast space
the infinite starry distance
forever before him and behind him, above and below

and there was a silence and a peace
a beauty
and a sweetness
a still wonder to behold

then
there
just there
was a doorway
it was dark
black
a blackest black velvet darkness

he came before the doorway
hesitated
and then remembered what the tantric goddess told to him
the black was her most loved place
it was the deep

so
he entered into the blackest black velvet darkness
it was a right sightless
wall hugging
all covering
nothing
all sensation disappeared
it was a soundless depth
it was the deep

there was nowhere to go
nothing to do
in the deep of the blackest black velvet darkness

it was a death
and so he gave up
he surrendered
accepted his end

in his surrender
the body built of experience and mind, the person
fell away

suddenly within the darkness was a light
and it was he
he was the light in the darkness
he was no longer he
he was the light

and the light moved through the darkness
and the light came before all light
the light of all
the beginning and the end eternal
the one light
god

and the light wondered
and then realized to be still
and in stillness
the light merged with the all light
merged with the one
with god

in a timeless time
the light did return to the darkness
and became with the person
and returned to the body of love

he kissed her forehead
and kissed her cheek
and kissed her lips
and shoulder and breast
he held her
and was complete on earth
